The Firebrand Candle Story
The concept of Firebrand Candle Company originally began as a craft project during the Christmas Season of 2012. Soon after, many of the people who received candles began to ask if I had ever considered starting a candle business. In February 2013, I launched Firebrand Candle Company.
My company is inspired by a desire to create intimacy and connection between people, a love of compelling aromas, and a drive to bring positive light to the city of Detroit. Each soy candle is named after a Detroit street and representative of its rich history and culture.
My Goal - turn the often-negative conversations regarding Detroit into ones much more warm, comforting, and inviting.
About the Owner - Quinn Hamilton
I am a native Detroiter and I currently live in Detroit--not very far from Eastern Market. I'm a proud graduate of Detroit Public Schools (Bates Academy and Renaissance High School) and Yale University (class of 2005). I was steadily ascending the clinical research administration ladder at a local university just outside of Detroit when, in 2012, I felt the intense desire to move back to my hometown. I needed to figure out more ways to contribute to the revitalization of the city as I was feeling out of touch. I also longed to reconnect and form deeper relationships with people in Detroit.
I moved back but soon realized that simply living in Detroit would not be enough. That led to me quitting my clinical research admin job and becoming more involved with amazing non-profit organizations in the city. I started Firebrand Candle Company with the help of D:hive, which has now evolved into Detroit Experience Factory and BUILD Institute, and I continue to learn more about myself, small business/entrepreneurship, and culture in this city. Now, I'm a software engineer in metro Detroit and I continue grow Firebrand Candle.
I truly hope you enjoy what I create. I'm always open to feedback and suggestions. Feel free to email me at FirebrandCandle@gmail.com to get in touch with me.
Thank you for supporting my small business!
